SCREENWRITING MASTER CLASSES - REWRITING
Liz Lehmann
------------------------------------------------------------
Screenwriting is re-writing.

Most people learn about the three acts and character arcs. But how can you improve your own script to make it shine? I will cover a variety of pro writing tricks and techniques that will focus on the four major problem areas of most screenplays.

You can take just one class that fits your needs or take all four. These are hands-on classes that will be working on YOUR SCRIPT. Maximum 6 people in each class. Please be prepared to work -- there will be some writing exercises in the class as well as some before.

Please email me screenplay by Jan 1 along with the logline (see below) and genre. Or hand me your screenplay at the next Rochester Movie Makers on December 28th.

JAN 10: WHAT IS YOUR STORY? FIRST TEN PAGES, LOGLINES, AND INNER/OUTER PLOTS.
The first ten pages are important to grab the attention of your audience (and if you are submitting to Hollywood, these pages will get your script read). But most screenplays bury those precious 10 pages somewhere in act 1. This class will help you find them and make them shine with the three essential story elements needed to make them work for the audience. We will also cover loglines, and the inner/outer plots -- these will help you write the rest of your script.

JAN 17: THE SAGGING MIDDLE. CONFLICTS, SUBPLOTS AND SCENES.
What do you do to fill up all those pages (and if you are submitting to Hollywood, middles pages keep the reader hooked). Do you have a subplot and does it support your main story? This class will cover themes and subplots that will add depth to your story. In addition, we will cover some techniques to help you to write tighter scenes that will make your script a real page turner.

JAN 24: THE WOW FACTOR. SET-UPS AND PAY-OFFS TO MAKE A GREAT ENDING.
The first ten pages hook the audience but the ending is what people talk about (and if you are submitting to Hollywood, endings sell the script). What are set-ups and pay-offs? This class will cover how they work to keep your audience interested throughout your script and by the end, satisfied by your story.

JAN 31: PLAY IT AGAIN, SAM. CHARACTERS AND DIALOGUE.
Characters with personality and distinctive dialogue will have people quoting your movie (and if you are submitting to Hollywood, this is what attracts top actors). With these easy to use tricks, your characters will jump of the page and practically write your scenes for you. We will also cover how to build characters to explore the theme in your movie.
